Introduction
“Mother of Love” is a deeply personal ballad by Robin Gibb, written in the wake of his twin brother Maurice Gibb’s passing in 2003. The song reflects Robin’s grief and his search for solace, drawing inspiration from both his own mother, Barbara Gibb, and Dadi Janki, the spiritual leader of the Brahma Kumaris. Robin dedicated the song to Dadi Janki and donated all royalties to the Janki Foundation for Global Healthcare .(
Released in November 2006 as part of the album My Favourite Carols, “Mother of Love” stands out as the sole original composition among traditional Christmas carols. Its poignant lyrics and emotive melody convey themes of maternal love, guidance, and the quest for inner peace amidst turmoil. The song was later re-recorded and included in Robin’s final studio album, 50 St. Catherine’s Drive, released posthumously in 2014 .
“Mother of Love” was first performed live at Wembley Arena on September 17, 2006, during the Brahma Kumaris’ ‘Just-a-Minute’ meditation event. This performance highlighted Robin’s connection to the themes of love and spiritual reflection embodied in the song .
With its heartfelt message and serene composition, “Mother of Love” serves as a testament to Robin Gibb’s ability to channel personal loss into a universal expression of love and hope.
