Introduction
The Heartwarming Family Journey of Country Music Legend George Strait
George Strait – famously known as the “King of Country” – is not only recognized for his 60 No.1 hits on the Billboard charts and over 100 million records sold worldwide, but also for his touching and enduring family story.
Born in the small town of Poteet, Texas, near San Antonio, George married his high school sweetheart, Norma, in December 1971. The couple eloped to Mexico and later held another ceremony in Texas to please their families. George served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and was stationed in Hawaii with Norma.
Their marriage, now spanning nearly five decades, makes them the second-longest-lasting couple in country music, following only Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean. George and Norma had two children: Jennifer Strait and George Jr., affectionately known as Bubba Strait. Sadly, in 1986, tragedy struck when Jennifer died in a car accident at the age of 13—a heartbreaking loss that George later honored with his song “Baby Blue.”
Bubba Strait, born in 1981, followed in his father’s footsteps with a passion for rodeo, especially team steer roping. He graduated from Texas A&M University and has written several songs for his father, including “Arkansas Dave.” Bubba is now happily married to Tamara, a successful real estate agent in Texas. Together, they have two children: Harvey (George Strait III) and Julianne. Harvey has even shared the stage with his legendary grandfather.
Interestingly, George Strait is a distant cousin of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. Currently, George and Norma are selling their 12-acre San Antonio estate, with Tamara acting as the listing agent.
The Strait family stands as a symbol of enduring love, legacy, and music. As the next generation—Harvey and Julianne—grows up, the powerful legacy of the “King of Country” lives on.
