“Help Me Make It Through the Night” is a classic country ballad written and composed by Kris Kristofferson in 1969 and released on his 1970 album Kristofferson. The song became widely known through the 1970 recording by Sammi Smith, which topped the U.S. country charts and crossed over into the pop charts, becoming one of the most enduring country standards of the era.

Decades later, the timeless quality of the song has inspired artists across genres. In early 2024, Azerbaijani singer EMIN and British vocal legend Engelbert Humperdinck teamed up to record a big-band rendition of Help Me Make It Through the Night for the Elvis-inspired album Now or Never, produced by acclaimed music producer David Foster. This version brings together EMIN’s rich, contemporary tone with Engelbert’s iconic baritone, creating a fresh interpretation of Kristofferson’s deeply emotional classic.

The collaboration has roots in a long-standing friendship: the two artists first met in 2012 in Baku during the Eurovision Song Contest, where Engelbert performed and EMIN was a guest artist. Their mutual admiration eventually grew into this musical partnership.

At DREAM Fest 2024, EMIN, Engelbert Humperdinck, and David Foster delivered a powerful live performance of Help Me Make It Through the Night that captivated the audience. Both vocalists brought out the song’s emotional core — a plea for comfort and companionship — while Foster’s masterful piano accompaniment added depth and elegance to the arrangement. The performance was praised for its heartfelt delivery and seamless blending of generations and styles.

Through this collaboration, the song’s message of longing and shared vulnerability continues to resonate, illustrating how a classic work can be revitalized by new artistic voices while honoring its emotional legacy
