Introduction
Brief History of That’s All Right (’68 Comeback Special)
That’s All Right originated as a blues song written and first recorded by Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup in 1946. Its 1947 release was modestly received, and although Crudup later pursued an out-of-court settlement over royalties from Elvis’s version, it never materializeds.
His performance, twice as fast and with a rockabilly drive, impressed Sun executive Sam Phillips and is regarded by many as a foundational record in the birth of rock ’n’ roll
Fast forward to 1968: After years devoted to Hollywood films, Elvis returned to live performance through the NBC television special Singer Presents… Elvis, better known as the ’68 Comeback Special, which aired on December 3, 1968
Directed by Steve Binder, the program featured intimate “sit-down” sessions, including Elvis strumming That’s All Right in an informal setting surrounded by fans. This return to his roots reignited his charisma and public acclaim
