Introduction
The Voice UK is facing a major shake-up after Sir Tom Jones revealed that he will not return for Season 15, making it clear that leaving the show was not his decision.
The legendary singer, known for hits such as It’s Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat? and She’s a Lady, has been part of the coaching panel for all but one season since the series began in 2012.
However, ITV has now decided to remove the 86-year-old star from the main lineup.
Tom Jones says ITV made the decision
Jones addressed his exit in an Instagram post, explaining that he was only informed about the decision recently.
He said ITV originally blamed financial problems involving insurance. The network later told the press that it wanted to refresh the show with a new coaching lineup, leaving no place for him.
Jones made it clear that he did not want to leave.
He said he loved the program and appreciated its audience, adding that there was never a good time to fire someone his age who still believed he was doing a good job.
The singer also revealed that ITV offered him a much smaller role. Under the proposal, he would make an appearance during the season but would not be involved from the beginning.
Jones admitted that he was not happy with that arrangement.
The singer has a strong history on The Voice UK
Jones has been one of the show’s most successful coaches.
He won the first season with Leanne Mitchell, then returned to victory in Season 7 with Ruti Olajugbagbe. He also coached Anthonia Edwards to a win in Season 11.
His departure means Will.i.am could become the only remaining coach from the original panel, although ITV has not yet officially announced the full lineup for Season 15.
The new season is expected to begin filming soon and is reportedly planned for a 2027 release.
Will.i.am is reportedly unhappy behind the scenes
Jones’ exit has reportedly created tension behind the scenes, particularly with Will.i.am.
As the only coach left from the original group, Will.i.am is said to be unhappy with the way ITV handled the situation.
The change also places the new coaches in an awkward position, especially Cheryl, who has reportedly faced criticism from fans since news of Jones’ departure became public.
Some viewers accused Cheryl of taking Jones’ seat, but reports suggest she had no involvement in the decision.
Fans want Tom Jones back
Jones’ announcement has caused a strong reaction from viewers.
A petition calling for ITV to reinstate him has reportedly collected more than 9,000 signatures.
Former coach Olly Murs has also supported Jones, describing him as a legend and one of the best people ever to sit in a coaching chair on the show.
Jones’ future with The Voice UK remains unclear, but his comments suggest that he is not ready to disappear from the series without making his feelings known.
The U.S. version is also preparing for changes
The American version of The Voice is preparing for its own major change in 2027.
After Season 30, longtime host Carson Daly is expected to leave the series. Keke Palmer will reportedly take over hosting duties for The Voice: Celebrity, a new version focused on contestants who are already famous for reasons outside music.
The celebrity contestants will compete for places on teams led by Queen Latifah, Riley Green and Joe Jonas.
Before that happens, Season 30 of the regular U.S. series will premiere Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The episodes will stream the following day on Peacock.
