Barry Gibb – “The Last Bee Gee” and the Emotional Journey After Losing His Brothers

In his first interview since the passing of Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb—the last surviving member of the legendary Bee Gees—opened up about his career, family, and the enduring pain of losing his brothers. In a heartfelt conversation with 7NEWS Spotlight, Barry shared deep reflections on brotherhood, music, and life as “the last man standing.”

He revealed he had written a song for Robin called “The End of the Rainbow,” a gentle farewell: “Be happy with where you are, because the dream came true.” For Barry, music has always been more than a career—it is a way to connect with the brothers he lost: Robin, Maurice (Mo), and Andy.

Throughout the interview, Barry looked back on a difficult childhood in Manchester, the family’s emigration to Australia, and their early musical ambitions in Redcliffe. “We were poor, but we were never afraid,” he said. Those early days, using broom handles as microphones, marked the beginning of what would become one of the most successful bands in music history.

He expressed deep regret: “Every time one of my brothers passed, we weren’t getting along. That’s something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life.” The pain of those moments brought Barry to tears—his first time crying during an interview—a rare and touching display of vulnerability.

Despite the heartbreak, Barry maintains his humor and sense of gratitude. He believes his greatest achievement is not his chart-topping hits, but his family: “My wife, my children, my grandchildren—that’s what’s real.”

Now preparing to return to Australia for a tour, Barry Gibb brings with him not only timeless music, but also the memories, love, and spirit of the brothers who helped him create the legendary Bee Gees legacy.
