Introduction
Tom Jones was battling a severe infection, and doctors had ordered strict bed rest. But that morning, as soft light filtered through the hospital window, a nurse gently knocked and whispered, “Someone’s here to see you. She said… this is the last thing she can do for you.”
Adele entered. Dressed in a long black coat, her face was lightly made up, but her eyes were misty. In her hands was a polished mahogany lacquered box.
“I know you don’t like a fuss,” Adele said, her voice as rich and sorrowful as a ballad, “but I couldn’t not bring this.”
Inside the box was a new arrangement of the legendary song Green, Green Grass of Home, reworked by Adele herself — along with a handwritten note:
“Sing this with me… when you’re better. Don’t leave just yet. Music still needs your voice.”
Tom’s hands trembled as he held the sheet music, and then, unable to hold it in, he buried his face in the pillow and wept.
There were no stage lights, no roaring crowds — just one young artist passing a torch to a legend. In that quiet hospital room, love for music spoke louder than any chart-topping hit. And Tom knew… it wasn’t time to say goodbye….
